Amber Valley Millenium Banners (Fleet Arts)
This was a project that engaged hundreds of people (both young people and adults) that included block printed textures, silk painted backgrounds and applique fabric techniques. The workshops, run by local artists, Tan Draig, Jeni Smith and Jan Reynolds, produced 17 banners: some are six foot triangles, others three foot.
It developed out of a pilot project jointly run by Fleet Arts and Amber Valley Borough Council. Using Lottery Millennium Funding, gained by Amber Valley Borough Council, Fleet Arts managed the participatory element of the project. Of the seventeen banners, 15 were made with towns and villages across the borough and 2 were made and are now exhibited in Glogow, Poland and Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA.
