apt (City Arts)
apt is a pioneering art project for young people based in Nottingham, working in collaboration with young people and arts, and our goal is to develop creative opportunities which support young people aged 13-19 experiencing and/or at risk of exclusion to fulfil their potential and overcome barriers to learning and inclusion within their lives.
apt runs projects in photography, video, music, sculpture, digital arts, making, creating, drama, multi-media, DJ-ing, graphics, exhibitions and more, running a programme of activity designed to respond to individual needs and support participants to work toward personal and educational goals. apt also aims to contribute to the development of more inclusive cultural and creative provision for young people locally and nationally, through research activities, partnership development and training events.
Our activities include:
A rolling programme of complimentary taster activities and creative projects designed to motivate and inspire, build skills and self-esteem, offering a taste of the arts and local creative and cultural and opportunities.
Celebratory showcase events in high profile local venues, inviting friends, family, peers and carers
Certificate of Achievement Scheme, to promote recognition of participant’s achievements
Young people’s support scheme
Peer education and training
Training for project partners and for artists and support workers
Partnership development work, to help identify opportunities and issues and to create a network which can support the development of this area of work locally.
Monitoring and evaluation of the impact of the programme on participants and partner agencies, including current research into arts mentoring practises and longitudinal tracking of participants.
The scheme has the flexibility to support the diverse needs and interests of participants, enabling them to participate as individuals and/or with peers, and to progress at their own pace. Participants have accessed many opportunities offered by local arts, youth, education and volunteering agencies, and have been offered individual support for periods from 3 months to two years to date. Linking in to youth, education, community and specialist support agencies in the area, participants are currently referred to the project through citywide Social Services teams, Youth Offending Team, Learning Support Units, Health Service, Youth Service, Connexions, and Learning Support Units. The project partners are also closely involved in supporting different aspects of the programme, and guiding the development of apt as a whole.
our funding:
Has included National Youth Agency/Neighbourhood Support Fund (NSF-NYA), European Social Fund Objective 2, Arts Council England, Quality Protects, HAZ, Connexions, PAYP, Youth Music, grants from charitable trusts/business and contributions from partner agencies.
