EMPAF Networking Event

Wed 27th January, 2010 - 10:30am to 3pm

At the Palace Theatre, Newark

A free event for artists, arts practitioners, organisations and community groups working in, or interested in working in the community and participatory arts. The day is designed to give plenty of opportunity to network, discuss your work, ask questions, share experiences and find out more information about a range of subjects and issues affecting the sector.

Facilitated by EMPAF Federation members Vince Attwood (Soft Touch Community Arts), Susan Smith (Wash Arts), Isabel Jones (Salamanda Tandem) and Catherine Gillam (Charnwood Arts).

We will also be joined by Kevin Tennant of Nottinghamshire County Council who will talk about forthcoming research and artist CPD activity Vicky Price (Three’s Company) who will discuss the current Nottinghamshire Arts and Health Research project.

10.30am Introductions and Informal Icebreaker

10.50am Professional Development / Professional Practice - a two way process

Facilitated group sessions opening with questions such as:

  • - What are community arts employers looking for?
  • - What do artists/practitioners need to support them?

and covering subjects such as:

  • - Defining roles and responsibilities
  • - Contracts
  • - Ownership and permissions
  • - Public Liability

12.20pm Nottinghamshire presentations:

12.40pm Lunch and networking

Attendees will be asked to specify any areas of work, issues or art forms they wish the afternoon session to be focused on, (for example: working with young people; arts and health; music or visual arts based community arts practice).

1.40pm Trends, Influences and Issues (includes Q&A)

A quick guide on external influences that may affect your work how to find out more on issues beginning with a fun

what do you know

exercise followed by information giving session covering topics such as:

  • - Vetting and Barring - Isos / CRB
  • - Arts Council England restructure
  • - Creative Partnerships
  • - Local government reform and the LAA

2.10pm Practice Development - The practical considerations

Facilitated sharing session exploring examples, experiences and discussions of projects by art form, issue or area and based upon the topics identified by attendees during lunch.
