Sun 28th November, 2010, 11am to 3pm
Adults in the Spalding area with a yen to make the most of music-making with local children are invited to sign up to either – or both – of two free workshops taking place later this month.
‘Playground Songs & Games’ takes place in Ayscoughfee Hall Museum on Sunday 28 November from 11am-3pm,
‘Leading Young Choirs’ in Fleet Wood Lane Primary School takes place on Tuesday 30 November from 4pm-6pm.
Managed by soundLINCS – Lincolnshire Music Development Agency – the workshops are both free of charge, although pre-registration is essential to secure a place.
Leading the workshops will be professional singer, songwriter and voice coach Liz Lenten, who promises to include insights into vocal technique for young voices alongside tips on healthy singing and on helping children to find their voices. ‘Anyone wishing to acquire or develop skills in leading musical activities is welcome to come along, whether they work in schools or within the wider community,’ says Liz.
The workshops in Spalding are part of the county-wide Sing Up Lincolnshire training programme run by soundLINCS. Part of the Government-backed ‘Sing Up’ National Singing Programme, for which soundLINCS is an Area Leader, the training takes the form of practical and topic-specific workshops in schools, arts centres, village halls and other community venues around the county.
‘The sessions are suitable for absolutely anyone who engages with children, ranging from people with little experience of group singing to those who want to develop their existing vocal skills,’ explains Colin Reed, Sing Up Programme Development Officer with soundLINCS. ‘Interest comes from a huge diversity of people, including teachers and classroom assistants, pre-school staff and playground supervisors, childminders, arts facilitators, youth workers and leaders of groups like Scouts, Guides and Brownies.’
Details on how to register for ‘Playground Songs & Games’ and ‘Leading Young Choirs’, together with information on workshops at other venues around the county, are available from Colin Reed at soundLINCS - telephone 01522 510073, e-mail colin@soundlincs.org or visit www.soundlincs.org
