As the Bridge organisation for the East Midlands, The Mighty Creatives would like to work in partnership with you to help more children access more great art and culture more of the time. We are here to support and secure sustainable growth in the provision of high quality arts and culture with, by and for children and young people. We have put together the following schedule of low cost events designed to help you engage with more children and young people.

Collective Encounters is a north Liverpool based theatre company specialising in using theatre as a tool for social change. Our youth theatre programme is now in its eighth year and we are seeking to employ a Youth Theatre Director to lead on all aspects of delivery. Our youth theatre programme involves a regular youth theatre as well as significant outreach provision in settings used by marginalised and hard to reach young people. The new Youth Theatre Director will have at least two years experience of working within a theatre for social change context, ideally with young people.

Plans are currently underway for an amazing festival which shall celebrate the seed industry in Sleaford.

Here at artsNK, we are always encouraging young people to take part. One of the ways we do this, is through classes and events being held by the Dance Team. Our latest Dance event, True Motion, was held earlier this month and was a resounding success.

The Creative People and Places Consortium for Boston and South Holland, Lincolnshire is seeking applications from artists and companies to contribute to the consultation stage of their new and exciting arts engagement programme – Transported.

One of The Mighty Creatives key priorities as the Bridge organisation for the East Midlands is annual intelligence gathering. This is used to inform the Bridge programme of activity and support the development of the arts and cultural sector by providing a sound knowledge base for future planning.

We are now publishing longer 'magazine' style articles on a weekly basis to subscribers. This month sees an exclusive article from celebrated theatre director Suba Das; Wild Rumpus give us their valuable research on encouraging outdoor participation; International Business Advisor, David Parrish, speaks to mailout on bringing creativity and business strategy together and Sue Robinson, mailout.co Editor, talks about the need for new tactics (and cheese) in our fight for continued funding and survival in this economic climate. All this, plus a hand picked round up of funding opportunities specific to the participatory arts sector.

New findings on the impact of youth volunteering programme From NCVO City Year London involves young volunteers aged 18-25 in a year of full time service in London schools as  mentors, tutors and role models. A recently published year two evaluation report has found the programme has  had important impacts on schools, pupils and the volunteers themselves. Staff involved in the IVR research reported that the volunteers had made a positive difference to pupils’ academic performance, confidence and behaviour. The volunteers helped pupils enjoy school more and served as positive role models. The young volunteers also benefited from the experience personally; developing transferable skills such as working in a team and leadership as well as developing confidence and self-esteem. Read the full report (pdf 1.4MB).

Safeguarding and DBS guidance We’ve produced an Information Sheet to help volunteers and volunteer-involving organisations understand the  new DBS (formerly CRB) checking process. The sheet provides guidance on whether a check should be  undertaken and if a particular position falls within ‘Regulated Activity’. It also looks at the wider safeguarding  process and provides links to other useful resources.
