Since 1988, First Movement has developed arts work that promotes the unique creativity of learning disabled people. It's projects form long collaborations with groups across the East Midlands. Using a rich mix of visual, media and performing arts it seeks to discover new artforms that reflect the aspirations and experience of its users. These employ a range of accessible and intuitive technologies that enable people to have a dramatic impact on their arts work.

EMPAF has been working to support an Arts Council England East Midlands initiative to help demystify recent developments in Local Area Agreements. ACE are running a series of mini events around the region for artists, arts practitioners and local authority arts officers to look at recent changes in terms of how they offer opportunities for arts and creative projects. The first event took place in Leicester at the beginning of June and EMPAF is publishing copies of presentation notes, supporting information and case studies used as part of all the events in the resources / essential publications section of this website (click on the title of this news item to go directly there). The next event will take place in Nottingham on 3rd July. Email info@empaf.com for more details.

EMPAF is collaborating with with Mailout, the national magazine featuring and celebrating all aspects of participatory and community arts, to put together a national conference this autumn. A unique opportunity for networking, discussion and debate the conference will take place on 18th and 19th September in Derby. ENYAN (English National Youth Arts Network) is working in partnership with EMPAF to deliver an East Midlands regional seminar on 27th June 2008 at The Y Theatre in Leicester on the subject of 'Target Led Vs Young People Led'.

Weighing-up the benefits and challenges of planning and delivering youth arts projects this free event includes an open space debate under the heading 'Who's voice is it anyway' led by EMPAF Partnership members Tina Glover and Vince Attwood.
