On the 18th of September, the Arts Alliance will be holding its Midlands Regional Event in Birmingham and we would be delighted to welcome you there.

The Arts Alliance is supported by the Ministry of Justice, Arts Council England and the Indigo Trust. It is made up of arts organisations that work in the criminal justice sector, delivering arts programmes in prisons, probation settings, detention centers, secure hospitals and working with the Youth Offending Service.

The aim of the event is to promote the use of the arts in the reducing re-offending pathways set up by NOMS, and to explore the role that the arts can play in the rehabilitation process. The members of the Arts Alliance firmly believes that arts based initiates can enable offenders to cope with custody, engage with education and acquire transferable skills for work in their communities.

This event is aimed at those working in the Midlands. It will be a mixture of interactive workshops, presentations and discussions. The aim of the day’s workshops is to explore criminal justice as a sector in which arts projects are run, to examine arts practices and to discuss the protocols, ethics and cultures in criminal justice settings in order to facilitate more effective arts based projects in future. Workshops will be delivered by some of the regions, and indeed the country’s, finest exponents of arts based practice in criminal justice settings, including Geese Theatre Company, Rideout and representatives from the Writers in Prison Network.

The event is free and lunch will be provided.
