NB now accepting bookings for Nottingham (1.5 days, free) on the morning of 18th and all day 25th February. And Lincoln on the 4th and 11th March. Background ‘Ep2 Enterprising People, Enterprising Places’ is a skills development programme for people that work or live in disadvantaged areas in the East Midlands and who are committed to regeneration. It’s different because it is about empowering communities to carry out regeneration for themselves. The programme consists of a series of innovative tools and techniques designed to meet the situations that regeneration practitioners and others find themselves in every day. Course Outline The course covers a range of techniques for use in one to one and group settings: Broad outline of content:
Specific content will be defined once the level of experience of the first group has been established. OutcomesYou will be a better skilled, more confident practitioner. This will extend your communication and facilitation/groupwork skills. Participants will go away with a toolbox of coaching skills for use both with individuals and groups. It will enhance skills in settings where sensitive negotiation has to be undertaken. This course will complement and improve your existing creative skillset. Once the pilot has been run, it will be evaluated and the option of running a further course at a more advanced level will be considered. Course date & venue The course is running again in Nottingham on the 18th and 25th February and Lincoln on the 4th and 11th march. Feedback from the pilot sessions: ‘I can take away tools to use as soon as possible. This will have a very positive effect - I will use the skills while working with people with mental health problems, on a mentoring project I have just signed up to, and with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, hard to reach and cultural groups. L J – MonOlisa Productions ‘Fab session, great exercises, V useful. I will use it training teachers, pupils and in community arts projects.’ C S – Oceantide Entertainments ‘I learned to become more aware when listening and how to get people to expand on what they are saying. Yes, it has helped me put all of my work/life into perspective. It will help me listen and understand people’s values especially in the regeneration areas.’ N D - Illustrator ‘I really enjoyed the workshop - I have identified areas that I need to work on in both personal and professional development. It has given me more confidence/skills for facilitating projects in the community. It will help with community groups – helping them to define their ideas. This has given me useful strategies which I can use in the future in work, for myself and for community groups. I shall use it to the next meeting my steering group in January.’ J W – People Express ‘This is giving me more in-depth understanding and practice. It was an easygoing environment encouraging more honesty. It's good to see why we do the things we do - I will be more understanding and sympathetic to other people. Time went quickly and in-depth covered many topics - well presented. I feel I will have a better connection to others. It will help me develop my listening skills when working in group sessions and one to one.’ J S B - Artist ‘The course has offered me skills and clarity. It will help me in dealing with conflict. I have enjoyed the whole process today, the tools appear useful – I will give more feedback when I have used them practically.’ C G - Artist ‘The workshop was fantastic for all involved and what was taught will be hugely beneficial to all we come into contact with. It provides me with skills I can put into practice in the community. This has given me so many different techniques to use with different people. I will use this when I start teaching drama in January.’ ‘Delivered in a great way. Fun and entertaining. K H ‘The tools were very interesting and simple to use and different - which means I can use different tools when different approaches are needed. I will use this directly within my work as a creative agent for Creative Partnerships, as well as to enable workshop participants within my own work to be active participants. It will also be useful in helping to set my own goals and to work towards them.’ R W – Artist/Creative Agent ‘I have improved confidence and knowledge of working with groups and individuals, I will use the tools as a means to self coaching and will use this when working with disadvantaged groups - particularly mental health. It will aid me when working with groups of people on art projects and within teaching.’ A M - Artist‘The second week gave me a better insight into other people's experiences, I gained more tools and understanding than I could have hoped for. Ultimately I want to be an art therapist and all tools have potential to be used. I'd like to learn more.’ C G ‘It has been an excellent experience on a personal level and on how I can utilise coaching in my work. I'll be using the techniques with local groups in my community, with my work and school and my art practice. There are diverse needs in the different communities I work and live in these techniques will help to develop my practice in these areas. Great resources and ideas, Thanks so much.’ S N – Pink Fruitbat Arts ‘I have some real practical guidance on tools to take and use in my own training and consultancy practice, I will use this for mentoring and board placement interviews, board development training and sponsorship training. I need to bring out information and problems in groups and this gives me a far better approach to doing that.’ D R – Arts & Business ‘I will use this in sessional work, allowing young people to reflect and take control of the choices. It will also help me reflect on my own practice. These workshops were excellent; I'm amazed at how many of the tools I learned related to my own work. More please!’ H McL – Leicester City Youth Service ‘The coach was amazing! I will use these tools with young people for their personal growth, and on projects.’ S B – Leicester City Youth Service Modified once, last modified by EMPAF on Mon 15th February, 2010 @ 10:01pm | |
