New Ideas for Music-Making Come to Lincs

New ideas for having fun whilst making music are spreading across Lincolnshire in the form of training workshops for adults who work with children and who want to make the most of singing with them.

The workshops are one element of the county-wide programme of specialist training run by soundLINCS – Lincolnshire Music Development Agency - in partnership with Lincolnshire Music Service. Part of the Government-backed ‘Sing Up’ National Singing Programme, for which soundLINCS is Area Leader, the training all takes the form of friendly and practical workshops in community venues around the county.

The latest in the series has been a workshop in Market Rasen, when professional singer, songwriter and vocal coach Abi Moore explored singing in parts and rounds, holding harmonies and improving listening. Abi is also leading a session in Spilsby on Sunday 11 July on the theme of ‘Composition Through Singing, whilst composer director and instrumentalist Jane Wells will lead a workshop featuring ‘Game and Songs for Indoors and Out’ at The Collection in Lincoln, also on 11 July.

All the workshops use material suitable for using with children aged 5 to 11 and are open to anyone wishing to acquire or develop skills in leading musical activities with children of primary school age, whether they work in schools or within the wider community.

‘The sessions are suitable for absolutely anyone who engages with children, ranging from people with little experience of group singing to those who want to develop their existing vocal skills,’ explains Colin Reed, Sing Up Programme Development Officer with soundLINCS. ‘Interest is coming from a huge diversity of people, including teachers and classroom assistants, pre-school staff and playground supervisors, childminders, arts facilitators, youth workers and leaders of groups like Scouts, Guides and Brownies.’

All places are subsidised by Sing Up, keeping the booking fee down to £10 per place. Details are available from Colin Reed at soundLINCS on telephone 01522 510073, e-mail colin@soundlincs.org or via www.soundlincs.org
