Hidden - Exhibition (Q Arts)
8 October – 29 October 2005
Groups of young people in Derby have designed and created their own dens through animation, sculpture, photography and film workshops with artists from Q Arts. They have considered dens as places of fun and enjoyment, places of safety and refuge and of comfort and security. Now their work is on show at a new exhibition in Q Arts – Gallery, Derby with a special launch party on 8 October and a den-making event in Derby Market Place on 26 October.
Hidden is the culmination of a two year project led by Q Arts and funded through ESF Co-Financing Objective 3 through Derbyshire Learning and Skills Council and a number of groups in Derby; Derwent PRU, Duffield Road PRU, Peartree PRU, Sinfin Youth Centre PRU, Rathbone Choices, Ashtree House, Youth Offending Services and St. Benedicts’ Visual Impairment Unit.
Charlotte Convey, Project Coordinator says of the exhibition; ‘The young peoples’ work is brimming with ideas and stories and offers visitors a rare insight into the private worlds of others. Visitors of all ages will also be able to add their personal memories to the display and help decorate a den which will grow and develop as the exhibition runs.’
In creating the work with professional artists, the young people will achieve OCN qualifications in a range of Visual Arts subjects. Several of those involved will also be focusing their energy and ideas into co-curating the exhibition alongside Q Arts staff.
