Hullabaloo (Next Stage)
Hullabaloo brought together the work of community groups made during the summer of 2005, exploring colour, shape and form of ‘barrilete’ (huge Guatmalan kites). The exhibition featured a wide variety of work made by more than 20 different groups from Nottinghamshire. Artists Peter and Alison Massey led the project, visiting day centres, community groups, Sure Start projects and Friendship Clubs through the summer. Participants have explored a variety of art forms – from mosaic and silk painting to textile and photography.
On the Hullabaloo exhibition launch day at Rufford Park there were a series of public workshops also on the theme of the ‘barrilete’, including paint pot lid mosaics, laminate sun catchers metallic mobiles and badges, brooches and magnets. Drop in activities such as a drumming circle, storytelling, weaving and making a barrilete with pot plants also took place throughout the day. Local Latin band Mas Y Mas performed a mixture of Latino Flamenco, Afro-Cuban and Celtic music, woven together by driving dance rhythms.
