Kapra - Hemanti Chauhan & Ranbir Kaur Exhibition (Apna Arts)
Date: Sept 2001 - Venue: Art Exchange Gallery
Kapra was an exhibition by two Midlands based artists who worked with fabric as part of the citywide festival ‘Fabrication’.
Nottingham galleries worked collaboratively to highlight the rich tradition of artists working in fabric at venues including the Angel Row gallery, Nottingham Museum & Art gallery and the Bonnington gallery.
Hemanti Chauhan explored provocative environments within Britain, India and Nepal to induce a variety of responses that encompass issues that are social, cultural, psychological, emotional, or spiritual in nature.
Significantly employed fabrics provide visual metaphors and large-scale photographs capture and share the aroused event.
Ranbir Kaur, a textile and Rangoli artist, combined her two areas of production and translated the traditional Rangoli in innovative ways through the use of textiles and fabrics instead of rice, pulses etc.
