Altered - Contemporary Art in Churches

Information

Altered – Contemporary Art in Churches

The Altered project is an exciting partnership of The Diocese of Lincoln, University of Lincoln and artsNK.

Altered aims to develop new partnerships and collaborations between artists and parish churches in Lincolnshire, challenging audiences to view ancient church buildings through the prism of contemporary art practice. Altered seeks to inspire Parochial Church Councils (PCC), teams of volunteers and all who are involved in the daily lives of churches in Lincolnshire to develop their own collaborations with artists, responding to structures, locations, hidden corners and re-telling the stories deep within the fabric of Lincolnshire Churches. Altered has already staged a series of exhibitions, performances and community engagement workshops between November 2012 and May 2013 at the churches of St Peter’s South Somercotes (with the support of the Churches Conservation Trust) and St Andrew’s, Heckington including the artists Pat van Boeckel, Emily Tracy, Gary Woods and Rhubarb Theatre with Brickbeat Recording Studios.
