The two courses are:

The Neuroscience of Creativity; 9.30am-12.30pm

What is creativity and how on earth do we develop it in ourselves and the children and young people that we work with?

 New discoveries about the brain are now throwing light on questions that have long been asked;

'Is creativity talent and temperament and based on genes?' or

‘Is creativity about environment and a skill that we can teach?'

'What age is best it to be exposed to creativity or are we just lucky if we have it?'

 Employers despair at the limited creativity that young people bring to the workplace, yet 'innovation' is the buzz word and is an essential capacity for young people seeking a job. We have to find ways to help them, and understand how we can do this effectively. This session will show you what is actually happening to the brain and the nervous system when 'creative activity' is taking place, and through this understanding you will learn how to make a huge difference to anyone's capacity to be creative. By understanding how to activate the 'innovation switch' in the young people you work with, you will plant the seeds of a creative capacity that will stand them in good stead - and bring them much personal pleasure - for the rest of their lives

The Therapeutic Use of Creativity: 1.30-4.30pm

'Therapeutic' means 'healing' and creative practitioners are brilliant at co-creating a healing with the people they work with.

 You already know that working creatively brings about positive attitudinal change for individuals and groups - confidence, self-esteem, and a freedom to be themselves-even though the project you were working on may not have had those specific objectives.But how does this change happen - not just at a brain level, but at a practical level between practitioners and an individual or group?

Although creative practitioners often know they are creating this change, they don’t feel confident about doing it because they are not trained therapists.This workshop deeply explores 'What is a ‘Therapeutic Outcome?’ and shows you how to consciously reach this with many of the groups and individuals you work with; both by using creative interventions AND by adopting a particular mindset when you deliver creative sessions.

Amongst other things, you will learn how to create an environment to support change, and how to select and design specific creative processes and activities to enable you to initiate this change and transformation without triggering trauma. This will develop your confidence and consciousness about the ‘what and how’ of what you do, so you become a co-creator and liberator of positive, healthy energy within the people you work with.
