“FABULOUS” Women celebrates the ‘Women of South Derbyshire’ through the written word.

This grew from two year long project called Celebrating Women, where writer Kevin Fegan encouraged women who lived, worked or played in South Derbyshire to tell their life experiences through stories and poems. The culmination of the project is the book “FABULOUS” which contains 22 amazing insights into women’s lives.

Writer Kevin Fegan, “Over the last year I have had the privilege of interviewing women, of all ages and different backgrounds. With Project Co-ordinator, Jane Wood, and the support of volunteer members of the Steering Group, we have been helping women to find ways to tell their stories. Following the initial interviews, the women have all worked with me to put stories down on paper, sometimes individually and other times in small groups. I see each chapter as like a window into the lives of these women. It has not been possible to include all the women who were interviewed. We have selected a range of women: not just women who are often the unsung heroines of the region.”

The project was funded by Heritage Lottery and managed by People Express, a Community Arts Organisation in South Derbyshire.
