Kala Kahani arts development worker Hema Acharya ran a series of four dance workshops as part of the 'BIG' visual arts exhibition at the Generator Gallery in Loughborough in June 2001.
Hema's workshops covered:
Garba, a form of clap dance from Gujarat
Dandiya Ras, stick dances from Gujarat
Bhangra, harvest dance from Punjab
Indian film dance - popular dances many of which have been derived from folk and tribal dances as well as the work of modern chorepgraphers.
A short film of the dance styles has been made by Hema, Zoe Childerely and volunteers at Charnwood Arts.
