The first public workshop of this project took place at Loughborough Town Hall on the 4th February 2002 with members of the Grand Union Orchestra. In an exciting evening over 40 participants ranging from tabla, flute, djembe and keyboard players to saxophonists, samba players and steel pans created some great music under the direction of GUO leader Tony Haynes.

This PMM project was funded by Charnwood Borough Council, AstraZeneca, Arts and Business, the Eastern Orchestral Board and co-ordinated by Charnwood Arts and Charnwood Borough Council. Grand Union worked with a wide range of community music groups represented at the launch to work towards the performance of a celebratory evening of music called Dr Carnival in April 2002.
