The Nottinghamshire Royal Society for the Blind Arts service is dedicated to providing a welcoming, creative and inclusive space for visually impaired people. There are currently two arts groups in Nottingham city and a group based in Mansfield who meet two hours a week to make, try-out, craft, build and create. The art sessions are popular and recent themes and skills include felt-making, collagraph print-making, clay sculptures and various textile projects are lead by the Arts Officer and a range of professional artists.
Seeing through Art is a venture designed to move the participants into a more intellectual and collaborative art process, working together to create one outcome or series of installation artworks. The final pieces, finished or samples, will be exhibited in Nottingham on 17th September as a promotion of their talents within National Eye Health Awareness Week. Seeing through Art will take place within one month, August 2012, beginning with a partnership with Nottingham Contemporary, working alongside professional artists and culminating with the exhibition, which will be interactive for all viewers.
The County element of this project held in Mansfield, has been kindly funded by Nottinghamshire Arts Fund, Nottinghamshire County Council.
