For 4 weeks during the summer holidays we were involved in the organization and provision of a variety of daytime activities for young in the catchment area 6 in Nottingham. Starting from 9th August we opened our studio at the Greenway Centre, Sneinton, for a selection of workshops in creative media i.e. film making and graphic design, of which the short film 3 young lads made can be seen below. Lots of thanks to George, Thomas and Jack for their hard work in making their film!
We then hosted a week of digital music production using Ableton Live where the young people could learn how to make a music track from scratch, including recording their own vocals beat-boxing to make their own drum sounds to then produce their own CD. The following week Mykee and Boy delivered a graffiti art design workshop with canvasses and Posca pens and then rounding up the week witha mural painting on our mobile graffiti wall.
In the final week of the holidays Dave and volunteers taught scratch Djing sessions with the young people, where they were learning all about the history and techniques of scratching and turntablism.
We are starting a 38 week Arts award course in the same 4 subjects; Creative media, Digital music, Graffiti art and Djing & turntablism. The course will be starting on Monday 4th October at 3:30 with a 5 hour taster drop-in session for people to come and get a hands on taste in what to expect for the first subject. The following 6 sessions after that will run from 3:30 to 5:30, and this will be repeated for each subject.
