Train as a square dance caller/round dance cuer

Information

There is a national shortage of square dance callers at present. If you are an experienced dance teacher, would like to train as a caller and are willing to set up your own (non-profit) club or adult education teaching new dancers to Mainstream level upon qualifying, scholarships are available for five-day residential caller schools, which are followed up by two years of supervision from an experienced caller. Experience in square dancing is essential but if you are new to it, beginners' courses are available in many areas from September onwards to Mainstream level or above.

As there is currently a need to reach dancers from younger age groups and ethnic minorities, people with good contacts in youth and community work would be particularly welcome. Funding has been made available by Awards For All for this training scheme but additonal funding may be available from The Petersen Fund for new callers from the LGB community - see www.iagsdc.org for details.

We are also looking for round dance cuers - this would suit teachers of sequence dancing.

Anyone interested should contact Zoe Bremer in the first instance on 0115-928 2896.
