Q Arts is Derby’s foremost visual arts gallery and a major force on the participatory arts scene regionally, with a growing national reputation. The exhibition programme is fresh and challenging, with a strong focus on digital arts. The participatory arts programme encourages a broad range of people from all walks of life to engage with the arts at all levels. With Metro Cinema and MACE (Media Archive for Central England) in partnership with Derby City Council, Q Arts is a leading partner in QUAD, an exciting, purpose-built Visual Arts & Media Centre in Derby’s city centre.

QUAD will enable Q Arts to realise a long-held ambition to bring all its activities together in a high quality environment and provide an exceptional stimulus for visual arts development in the city. Award winning architects, Fielden Clegg Bradley have been appointed following an architectural competition and the project should be completed in 2007. Q Arts will take a leading role in supporting artists’ involvement in the project and we will be working increasingly closely with our partners as joint programme, education and audience development initiatives evolve.

EMPAF has been working to support an Arts Council England East Midlands initiative to help demystify recent developments in Local Area Agreements. The first event took place in Leicester at the beginning of June and EMPAF is publishing copies of presentation notes, supporting information and case studies used as part of all the events in the resources / essential publications section of this website (click on the title of this news item to go directly there). The next event will take place in Nottingham on 3rd July. Email info@empaf.com for more details.
