Sileby Mosaic (Charnwood Arts)
The Sileby Mosaic followed on from a village A-Z project which resulted in four large images being produced for Sileby Village Hall. The development of ideas for the mosaic took place through public meetings and workshops and the design displayed at a weekend event in the village hall prior to execution. The village hall exhibition also invited members of the public to submit items for the time capsule to be placed beneath the mosaic. This included hundreds of postcards to the future designed and written by local children, photographs, a cricket ball, books, a locally made brick(!), a computer game and all sorts of other contributions - enough to fill a large dye vat.
The mosaic was contructed by artists Lisa Denham and Steve Henderson in a building in the village supplied free of charge by Charnwood Borough Council.
The project was funded by Leicestershire County Council, Charnwood Borough and Sileby Parish Councils.
